Australian Ethical Erosion

An excellent and yet damning piece regarding what I see as virtually the complete erosion of Australian government ethical and morally defensible actions.  Whilst, sadly, this erosion is demonstrated across all areas of our government, it has rarely if ever sunk as low as in relation to refugees and asylum-seekers travelling in rickey boats to seek safe haven and a chance at a better life in a supposedly safe, caring…

Australia’s Shame

Although Papua New Guineans are seen to be taking this action there should be no mistake that this is the result of the Australian Government’s hard line on refugees and immigrants who arrived by boat seeking save haven. Instead they have been incarcerated for years. Australia is culpable and its actions regarding those arriving by sea are inexcusable and horrific. A shame on the nation.

Betrayal

Eloquent and articulate. Noel Pearson offers a heartfelt glimpse into the hypocrisy, cowardice and deception brought by the political right and its leaders to a valid recognition of the First Australians. Already we have seen the drastic effects that poor or controlled journalism can achieve.  One only has to consider the election of Donald Trump, the vote for Brexit or the return of the Abbott/Turnbull two-headed coin government. It’s ironic that Trump seems to…

Australian Parliamentary Eligibility Farce

Australian Parliamentary Eligibility would appear to be available to NO Australian. How bizarre? However, it seems that because of the wording of Section 44 of the Constitution [ http://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/Publications_Archive/archive/Section44 ] which deals with disqualification, becoming ineligible can depend on the laws of other nations. As it stands, the laws of New Zealand effectively make all Australians ineligible to hold office in either the upper or lower houses of the Federal…

Rape – Why do men sexually assault women?

This  The actions behind the Dutch backpacker’s brave escape are sadly familiar  is an unfortunate article for at least two reasons: firstly that the reality of rape and attempted rape gave cause for it to be written at all, and secondly because its extensive generalisation tends to reinforce the notion of females as victims and males as grossly deviant and prone to sexual assault of women, often accompanied by aggression…
