Australia’s Shame

Although Papua New Guineans are seen to be taking this action there should be no mistake that this is the result of the Australian Government’s hard line on refugees and immigrants who arrived by boat seeking save haven. Instead they have been incarcerated for years. Australia is culpable and its actions regarding those arriving by sea are inexcusable and horrific. A shame on the nation.

We, all Australian people, the First Australians and the last Australians and all of us in between who remain alive need to stand up against yet another abuse of the people from whom the British stole this land in 1788. Non Aboriginal Australians have not yet taken responsibility for the devastating effect that invasion had on the First Australians nor that, in so many ways, their ill-treatment and dispossession continues….
