We need PEOPLE in public office. Men have predominated in most of these roles. Some have been empathetic, compassionate, intelligent, and genuinely sought to improve the lot of all. Far more have been narcissistic, prejudiced, ideologically static, and about self-interest,
Of the women who *have* achieved rolls of status and power, we have had a similar mix. We have seen the bad in such as Indira Ghandi, Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher, and we have seen the good, such as Aung San Suu Ky, and Angela Merkel.
I see no difference in the potential worth of women over men or men over women when it comes to influential positions in politics, business or anywhere else.
What I do see is a need for intelligent, critical thinking, compassionate, caring, listening and flexible minded people who give due consideration to evidence and achieving a positive aim for all, rather than catering to populism and directions that are motivated by a desire simply to stay in power.
However, it is certainly true that males have dominated the area of high political office and other senior roles.
So, yes, it *is* time for *more* women to “run for office” but please, let it be for the right reasons and let it be the right women. Let it be those who see themselves as *people* first and who have the qualities and motivation for service that benefit all.
